In less than 20 years, the ESG movement has grown into a global phenomenon representing more than US$30 trillion in assets under management.

About this event

Environmental, social, and corporate governance (ESG) is an approach to evaluating the extent to which a corporation works on behalf of social goals that go beyond the role of a corporation to maximize profits on behalf of the corporation's shareholders.

In this discussion, Janet Voûte, Chair Creating Shared Value Council at Nestlé ,will explain what the letters ESG mean, and elaborate on the history of business involvement in environment, social and governance issues.

Today there is a frenzy of activity in the business community with new corporate commitments being announced regularly. These commitments are motivated by investor, employee and stakeholder expectations as well as new regulations. When did businesses start to take these issues seriously and how far have they really come ?

Olivia Lamarche-Brunisholz, from FriUP, will introduce the Student Venture Program of Fribourg which supports entrepreneurial projects. It offers customized support in all phases of project development, whether it is the result of a personal idea or initiated as part of a course (module course).

Entrepreneurship born in Fribourg

The conference

In this duo conference, you will discover both sides of the entrepreneurial world. First, from the perspective of the startup, with Alessandro Silacci and his personal training app Trainya, and second, from the perspective of the incubator, with a motivational talk by Olivia Lamarche-Brunisholz where she will talk about FriUP and how it helps startups in Fribourg.

In sports, we can observe performance by different metrics. Alessandro Silacci found a methodology that had not been explored in this field. The idea for the Trainya virtual coach was born.

FriUP on the other hand is the official support body for startups in the canton of Fribourg. It is a non-profit organization founded in 1989. Today, it is based at the blueFACTORY site and has permanent offices in Murten and Vaulruz, as well as numerous other locations throughout the canton of Fribourg. FriUp is financially supported by the Confederation, the canton of Fribourg and the economic fabric of Fribourg.

Our speakers

Olivia Lamarche-Brunisholz is a program leader at FriUP. She has been involved in the start-up world for over 12 years as an entrepreneur or alongside investment teams. She is certified in financial analysis, company valuation, investment selection and financing.

Alessandro Silacci, 28, a doctoral student at the University of Applied Sciences Fribourg (HEG-FR), mixed his passions during his master's work in computer science at the University of Applied Sciences Western Switzerland (HES-SO).

Young entrepreneurs

Online conference

Most students in business school will learn to do SWOT analysis or determine the break-even point for a specific product. They will also learn that to start a company you have to think outside the box, conquer your fears and venture into the unknown. But what most students won’t do is actually go out there and start their own business. And that may be because it’s really hard to go independent. Between formulating a coherent plan, finding the right people to work with or sourcing your seed capital, launching a startup is very long and tedious path. And that’s not all, after only five years, the probability of survival drops to less than 50%. All these factors explain why most students will try but not succeed.

Fortunately, today, we have a success story for you. Two young entrepreneurs from Fribourg will present their startup and talk about the real-life challenges of building your business
